HOT ROD GIRL (1956) is a great little flic that starred Lori Nelson, John Smith, and Chuck Conners. Our Hot Rod Girl, Lisa, drives a '55 T-bird and not a hot rod, but never mind. The story centers around her relationship with her boyfriend Jeff. Jeff is an engine wizard and tune's both Lisa's 'Bird & his kid brother's '32 highboy to victory at the local drag strip (San Fernando). Watch Lisa put the hurt on a Jag XK-150 in the finals--Yea! After the race, Jeff rides home in his brother's rod and, despite his protestations, they get involved in a street race. The race ends in disaster with the kid brother being killed. Ouch! The local good-cop, who is the drag strip's mentor, comes under fire because the strip was supposed to end street racing. Jeff gets so upset by all this that he refuses to work on rod's anymore, including Lisa's 'Bird (how's she gonna remain top eliminator?). He also unexplainably refuses to work on Lisa anymore, which really has our Hot Rod Girl in a tizzy-fit! Meanwhile, a new-guy, Bronc, arrives in town with his Old's Rocket-88 convertible. Bronc is a bad-guy and causes all kinds of havoc by first trying to steal Lisa's affections and then egging-on one of the club members into a chicken-race. The good-cop is really upset to hear about this so he harasses Bronc into bring his Old's out to the strip to race. Guess what? Bronc's Old's won't pass the safety inspection administered by Jeff--talk about a total put-down! To retaliate, Bronc, later forces the 'Bird driven by Lisa & Jeff off of the road and a boy is killed. The good-cop has got a real mess on his hands now, and the City Council wants the strip closed. He finally figures out that Bronc is the culprit by matching paint scratches from the scene of the accident. Whew, all's-well that ends-well. The drag strip remains open, and Jeff goes back to tuning-up our Hot Rod Girl and her T-Bird.
